Over and out

Dinner Plain, Victoria

We've been away. We went on a holiday - one not work related. This is rare!

We joined forces with friends and rented a chalet at Dinner Plain, near Mt. Hotham Ski Resort. It was great! I've never done this before. I'm not an alpine skier. I did cross country when I was a teenager but never downhill; it was too risky for me as a professional dancer. One screw up and I'd be out of a career. I've never accepted an invitation to ski.

This trip happened at the right time in my life for me to feel that I could give it a go. So, I learned to downhill ski!I did it for another reason as well. Every year I learn something new for Søren, our son who died. I like to try to find things to learn that I can imagine he would have enjoyed. Last year, it was the banjo. I'm still working on that one and have years of learning to go!

Initially I felt a bit teary thinking of doing it for Søren. His 10th birthday is July 25th. I can't believe, had he lived, he would be 10 years old! To think of those little baby feet that never had the chance to become big gangly pre-teen feet, squeezed into huge ski boots. There are so many things to miss in a lifetime.

Once I gained more confidence, I felt better and learned that I can conquer a fear, honour my son and have fun, all at the same time.

Me, in blue, and my instructor, Dan.

The Bubster learned to ski as well. He went to ski school for 2 days of our holiday. He was too tired to do more. But by the second day, our 4 year old was skiing down the slope with the 6 and 8 year olds. I was so proud and so impressed. I love that he tried something new too. Maybe in the years to come, he will join me in my yearly learning endevours.

We will be away in Sydney now! But after our return, it's back to the sewing and making and crafting. :-) I miss my blog and blogmates!!

Just wanted to send you big ((((HUGS))). I am sure Soren is very proud of his mummy and his baby brother.

That looks like so much fun and what a wonderful way to honour Soren. I'll be thinking of you on Saturday.

It has been awhile since I stoped in, but it is great to see you in such fine form! I would love to learn to ski with you. I wasn't a professional dancer, but was still too scared to ski. Now I think I'd love it.

Lots of hugs to you in light of your would be ten year old beautiful son Soren. Much love and many blessings to you all!
